For more than 50 years, students from all over Ohio have participated in the academic equivalent of a state athletic championship – State Science Day. The event has been coined as the “pinnacle of student originated, inquiry-based science education”, and is one of the largest of its kind in the nation.
Central Ohio ASHE has had the pleasure of participating in State Science Day for the past several years. A team of judges from Central Ohio Section evaluates projects and interviews students to determine the winners.
Nearly 1000 students in grades 7 – 12 from more than 200 Ohio schools are evaluated on their scientific research and communications skills. Students are first chosen to exhibit by their schools and then by their Jr. Academy Council districts by having superior projects in their respective geographic areas. Students then compete for nearly 100 different scholarships and awards valued at more than $1.5 million.
